Moshe Menuhin

Why should we Jews persecute Arabs, drive them into exile and occupy their homes, these people who been kind to us as individuals and as a people all through history? They were almost the only people in the last thousand or fifteen hundred years who welcomed Jews into their midst when they were persecuted in other parts of the World.

In Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and elsewhere in the Arab world, Jews lived for thousands of years as successful, happy, integrated members of the Arab nation. The Talmud was originally in Aramaic, the tongue of the Arabs of Palestine and that whole region in ancient times, and most of was written in Babylonia, now Iraq. Jewish culture and religion was allowed to develop and flourish there and in other Arab countries where Jews have lived traditionally or where they have found refuge from persecution.
